Obituary

Genevieve Veronica McKay was born on October 22, 1924, to James John and Jennie Frances (Grogan) McKay in Revillo, SD. She shares that birth date with her sister, Vivian, who was born on that date in 1922. The family moved to Marshall when Veronica was young. She went to grade school at St. Joseph’s Academy and graduated from Marshall High School in 1942. Veronica worked for a short time as a Secretary at the Court House. She and several friends went to Washington DC during World War II. She worked as a Civilian Secretary in the War Department. At the end of the war, she returned to Marshall and worked as a Secretary for the law firm Meehl & Wiltrout.

Veronica had many interests in life. She was an avid reader and enjoyed walking, bowling, tending to her flowers and yard. She loved to travel and took many trips. She enjoyed time in Hawaii, Alaska, England, Ireland, France, Italy, New Zealand and China.

Veronica died on Thursday, June 4, 2020, at the Divine Providence Nursing Home in Ivanhoe. She is survived by Lois Regnier, Theresa (and Bob) Hoffman, John (and Dee) McKay and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Marie, Vivian, Pat and brother, Jim.

Thank you to the staff of Ivanhoe Nursing Home for the special care they gave Veronica.

I have always remembered admiring your Hummel collection. They were beautiful figurines.
I remember you and my mom (Carol McKay) and my dad ( Jim) spending time talking at your kitchen table as us kids ran around your backyard. To this day the smell of bar soap reminds me of your home. A clean scented smell. You will be reunited with your parents, sisters and Jim. Rest In Peace Aunt Veronica.
