Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Patrick “Pat” Deutz, 78, of Marshall, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Patrick Loren Deutz was born on March 17, 1941, in Marshall, to Frank and Augusta (Sarazyn) Deutz. He grew up on the family farm north of town and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Marshall. On November 13, 1965, he was united in marriage to Rosie Dobias at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milroy. The couple farmed and raised their family south of Marshall.

Pat Deutz was a man with limitless ideas and energy for making this world a little better every day. He inspired, required or conspired to involve family and friends in turning his visions into realities. From gathering people together to help neighbors in need, to creating lasting traditions for thousands of people through the Christmas Barn and other neighborhood festivals. He enjoyed making our world more beautiful with his stonework, Ukrainian eggs, model horses with antique farm equipment, and continuously improving the gardens and woods of his home. He attracted and cared for many varieties of birds, and spent many hours joking and playing cards with family and friends. He believed in working hard and doing good. He held a reverence for God’s creation by tending his incredible gardens, and by farming the land with a love and appreciation which he generously shared with his children and grandchildren.

Pat died on Sunday, October 6, 2019, surrounded by family and under the care of hospice at his home south of Marshall. He is survived by his wife and perfect partner Rose, who was his everything. Remaining to carry on his legacy are his six children and their families: Greg (Mary) Deutz of Marshall, Brian (Jeanine) Deutz of Sioux Falls, SD, Maria (Ralph) Bernardy of Tracy, Sue (Dan) Donner of Marshall, Pam (Chuck) Stone of Park Rapids, Glen (Bernadette) Deutz of Marshall, 19 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren (and counting). He is also survived by 6 siblings: Gary (Armella) Deutz of Marshall, DeAnna Poor of Florida, Bill (Becky) Deutz of Marshall, Laura (Richard) Duthoy of Maryland, Dan (Katie) Deutz of Lake Benton, and Paul (Fran) Deutz of Marshall, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Eagerly awaiting him at heaven’s gate are his parents Frank and Augusta Deutz, and 6 siblings: Jim Deutz, Peggy Porter, John Deutz, Audrey Blair, Ramona Smith, and Ted Deutz.

Memorials preferred to Holy Redeemer Church, Holy Redeemer School, Prairie Home Hospice or Donor’s Choice.

Pat was involved with everyone. Pat always was there to help. Everything about this man was positive with his wife Rose included. And all his children and everyone is better knowing Pat. He is a big influence in my life and I wish Him and his family nothing but the best. Always will.
