Visitation will continue from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.

Mary Ann Bump was born on May 10, 1941 at her Van Uden family home in Minneota, MN and peacefully entered her heavenly home on December 27, 2018 in Deephaven, MN. Our beloved Mary loved God with her whole heart and lived a beautiful life of selflessness, servanthood and Christ-like love.

Mary grew up on a farm near Green Valley, Minnesota, the third of eight children, graduated from Cottonwood High School and lived in the Marshall area her entire life. Mary was many extraordinary things to many people. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, soloist, cheerleader, beautician, farmer, seamstress, Butcher Block business owner, consultant, real estate agent, warrior, confidant, gardener, baker, youth group leader, champion of Special Ed advancements, sports spectator and jokester but her favorite and most rewarding role was as a spunky and playful Grandma. She brought an enormous amount of joy and laughter to all of our lives.

We feel Mary all around us everywhere we look... she is there in the garden tending to her flowers. She’s trimming trees, mowing the lawn, and giving mower rides to grandkids. She’s baking ginger snaps and Belgium cookies, making apple & rhubarb pies, jam, and bread pudding. She’s cleaning, organizing, and making lists of what to get done next. She’s having fun playing cards, dice, trouble, and doing a puzzle. She’s making up jokes, making up songs and making us all laugh. She’s splashing in the lake, raking weeds, and being silly with us. She’s on the boat, taking a cruise, and enjoying a sunset. She’s sitting at her kitchen table watching the gold finch birds, talking about those raccoons on her deck again, and warning the critters not to eat her flowers because she’s got a good aim. She’s admiring the beauty of ice and snow on the winter trees, and a coral summer sunset over the fields. She’s sharing wise advice, giving hugs, always moving, giving, loving and getting ‘er done! No one could make it, bake it, plant it, trim it, water it, weed it, solve it, shim it, save it, trap it, sing it, create it, play it, praise it and pray it like Mary.

Mary was strong and compassionate and loved and followed Jesus. While she endured suffering during times of her life, she modeled what it looks like to have steadfast faith and truly trust God in every circumstance. Her faith was built on truth and the Word rather than emotions or experiences. She reflected Christ’s love to all.

Mary is survived by the children of her daughter Kathy Bump: Adam (Nody) Rivera, Alena Rivera, Raul (Jasmine) Rivera and Natalia Rivera; son Dean (Sheri) Deutz of Edina, their children Abigail, Laura and Hannah; daughter Linda (John) Haugen of Deephaven, their children Lukas, Truman, Isaac and Estelle; daughter Ali (Scott) Beekman of Marshall, their children Amanda (Blake), Danielle and Mackenzie; daughter Lisa (Rémi) Raphaël of Charlotte, NC, their daughter Tulipe; son Jason Bump of Marshall, MN; daughter Lori (Travis) Bosacker of Monticello, their children Ethan, Gabrielle and Campbell, as well as fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Anthony (Kathie) Van Uden, sisters Janet (Robert) Bossuyt, Teresa (David) Schulte and Geraldine (Glenn Nelson) Van Uden and sister-in-law Linda (Dennis) Van Uden. She is also survived by dear aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews too numerous to list.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James Deutz, in 1970, and husband Lyle Bump in 1992; son Phillip Deutz in 2011 and daughter Kathy Bump in 2015; parents Hubert Van Uden in 1974 and Deborah Van Uden in 2004, sister Trudy Pry in 1988 and brothers Henry Van Uden in 2011 and Dennis Van Uden in 2018.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or we invite you to plant tulips or a tree in your own yard to remember and honor Mary.

I was looking for another obituary when I ran across Mary's obituary. I love the picture of Mary that you chose and the obituary was wrote beautifully, depicting each aspect of her lovely life. As I read, I often smiled as I recalled my several interactions with Mary. After Greg passed, Mary was so sweet to spend time with me discussing heartache and the future. I so much enjoyed her wisdom and kindness. She certainly had a huge heart and love for others, as I'm confident you are very well aware of. I consider myself fortunate to have had the pleasure of knowing Mary. Blessings to you all.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I have no doubt that God will remember her and keep her memory safe. He will surely be glad to bring her back to life in a perfect world when suffering will be no more and we will all welcome back our loved ones that are asleep in death. (Revelation 21:4 & John 5:28, 29) May our loving Father bring your family the peace and comfort only He can provide.
