A graveside service and interment for Jerald “Jerry” Pohlen, 77, of Taunton, will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Minneota.

Jerald “Jerry” Jerome Pohlen was born on July 20, 1943, in Marshall, to Benjamin and Lorene (Thomas) Pohlen. Jerry grew up on the family farm near Minneota, and attended school in Minneota. After leaving high school, he ran a corn shelling business for a couple of years. Jerry later moved to Moline, Illinois, to work at a welding shop. He served in the Army National Guard for six years. Jerry moved back to Minnesota to farm with his family, then bought his own farm site near St. Leo in 1970. Jerry was an easygoing man who enjoyed his work. He was a farmer at heart, and like a true farmer, never really retired. Jerry went hunting a few times in his early years, but most of his time was spent farming, or driving around the area looking at other farms.

Jerry died on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at the Sanford Canby Medical Center. He is survived by his sons Brian of Silver Lake and Brad (Angie) of Taunton; grandchildren Jada Moon and Skylar Gilbertson; siblings Ben (Sue) Pohlen, Doug (Linda) Pohlen, Diane (Jim) Jelen, and Margene (Bernie) Claeys; brother-in-law Herb Schmitz and sister-in-law Cecilia Pohlen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Phyllis Van Watermuelen, Delores Schmitz, Lois Schulte, Thomas Pohlen, Mike Pohlen and Eunice Haugen.

“I'm so sorry for your loss” “I'm sad for you and your family, please accept my deepest condolences”. I met your father many years ago, my father introduced Jerry to me. They formed a friendship and shared the love of agriculture. Neighbors until my father past, my dad called Jerry hard working, an excellent farmer and a steward of the land. Most of all your father was honest and truly a good man. He will be sincerely missed, God Bless and may he rest in peace.
Kind Regards
Duane Bicek

I’m Just a Farmer, Plain and Simple
By Bobby Collier

I’m just a farmer,
Plain and simple.
Not of a royal birth
But rather, a worker of the earth.
I know not of riches
But rather, of patches on my britches
I know of draught and rain,
Of pleasure and pain.
I know of the good and the bad,
The happy and the sad.
I am a man of emotions.
A man who loves this land,
And the beauty of its sand.
I know of a spring’s fresh flow
And autumn’s golden glow,
Of a newborn calf’s hesitation,
And the eagle’s destination.
I know of tall pines,
And long, waiting lines.
Of the warmth of campfires,
And the agony of flat tires.
But I am a man who loves his job
And the life I live.
I am a man who works with God,
I cannot succeed without his help,
For you see,
I’m just a farmer
Plain and simple.
