Emma Mary (Thooft) De Langhe was born on August 9, 1926, to Ernest J. and Maria (Dobbelaere) Thooft on the family farm west of Marshall. She attended country school and obtained her GED later in life. On January 18, 1950, she was united in marriage to Edward De Langhe. The couple farmed and raised their five boys and six girls south of Marshall. Emma worked hard and instilled the value of work and integrity in to her children. She was a very patient and kind wife and mother. Emma was an early feminist and always believed in helping people and treating everyone equally and fairly. She was instrumental in starting Beginning Experience and later Main Stay in Marshall. Emma continued her education with Senior College. Aunt Em was always a very caring person. She always wanted to know how my family was doing. There is no doubt that she instilled those wonderful values into all of her family members. We will miss her. May God's grace flow onto the whole family as you celebrate her life. Sorry we cannot attend.

Such a beautiful, classy, strong lady. I will always cherish the fond memories of riding our bikes down the dirt road to the old farm, helping pick the eggs or pull the garden weeds with the DeLanghe kids (it's always more fun to do chores at someone else's house!) and being called for a meal by Aunt Em ringing the dinner bell. I loved this gentle lady who always asked how you were doing but was humble in not wanting to talk about herself. She was certainly a role model in living a life of virtues. Well done, good and faithful servant. Eternal rest grant unto Emma, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
