Elffie Mae Kopperud was born on September 18, 1921, in Rosehill Township to Ernest and Bertha (Bloch) Rachuy. She was baptized and confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Trinity Church in Westbrook. Elffie attended Country School District 59 in Rosehill Township. The family moved to the Bloch family farm southwest of Westbrook in 1937. Elffie left school after eighth grade to assist on the family farm. As a young woman, Elffie worked in various capacities as a housekeeper, baby sitter, at the Jack Sprat Grocery Store in Westbrook and as a Husker in the Rochester Corn Canning Factory.

On June 9, 1950, Elffie was married to Truman Kopperud at the American Lutheran Church (now Grace Lutheran) in Westbrook. Elffie was an active member of Old Westbrook Lutheran Church, holding offices in the Ladies’ Aide, and in the Shetek Conference Women’s Organization. She was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, and she sang in the choir. Elffie and Truman enjoyed volunteer work including driving for RSVP for many years. She was an active member of the local Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer Hair Dresser at Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook.

Elffie was especially passionate about her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
