The funeral service for Adrian C. Golberg, 80, of Cottonwood, will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020, at 2:30 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. A walk-through visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Cottonwood. Mask and social distancing requirements will be observed at all services. A recording of the service will be available next week at www.horvathfuneralservice.com.

Adrian Carl Golberg was born on August 5, 1940, in Valley City, ND, to Carl and Eva (Grady) Golberg. Adrian began school at the age of four, because his mother was the teacher at a one room schoolhouse, and she brought him to work with her. He graduated from Valley City High School in 1957, at the age of 16. Adrian attended Valley City State College for one year before transferring to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He later earned a Master’s Degree from Rutger’s University. After graduating from college, he was employed with FDIC as a bank examiner with territories in Minnesota and North Dakota.

On June 17, 1961, Adrian was united in marriage to Judy Nordgaard at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City. The couple moved from the Grand Forks area to Fargo and back to Grand Forks with Adrian’s job. In 1969, Adrian began his career as a banker in Cottonwood, MN. In addition to banking, Adrian owned an insurance and real estate agency. His desk was never neat, but he always knew where to find what he was looking for, no matter how high the pile. He was generous with his time and money to any cause that supported the local community.

Adrian loved sports of any level in any form. He enjoyed golfing and was on a bowling league for many years. Adrian spent six years in the Air Force National Guards at the Air Force base in Fargo. He was an active member and past president of the Lion’s Club and the Independent Bankers of Minnesota. He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he served as a financial secretary in his younger years and also as an usher. Adrian enjoyed bargain shopping, and he had a famous sweet tooth, especially for peanut M&Ms.

Adrian made family time a priority. Having a lake home provided a place for family, friends, and relatives to gather and make memories. The family fantasy football draft and events of Waterama were some of the favorite family highlights. In later years, Adrian and Judy spent the summer months in Glenwood and winter months in Arizona.

Adrian died on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the Avera Granite Falls Hospital. He is survived by his wife Judy of Cottonwood; son Greg (Ellen) of Cottonwood; daughters Cheryl (Marc) Hennen of Greensboro, NC, Christine (Craig) Golberg-Nelson of Lake Crystal and Seattle, WA, and Amy (John) Drietz of Porter; grandchildren Derek (Macy) Golberg, Torey (Jamie) Golberg, Kayla (Levi) Kuyper, Isaac, Abby, and Joey Hennen, Shane, Garret, and Carly Nelson, and Grace, Sam, and Ben Drietz; great-grandchildren Waylon, Walker, and Wyatt Golberg, Wells Golberg, and Nova, Lainey, Asher, and Wren Kuyper; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to spin-zone.org (Serving People In Need) in Cottonwood or Prairie Home Fieldcrest in Cottonwood.

Judy and family. Mr. Golberg played a significant role in my personal and professional success. He took a chance and hired me to work in the bank in Vesta right after I graduated from college without any business or professional experience. I've used the lessons learned about life, business and how to work professionally for almost 30 years. I'm now the president of a soap company in Hastings, Nebraska where I use Mr. Golberg's lessons on how to read a P&L almost daily. Thoughts and prayers for all of you on a great loss and a great business mentor. Maria Markusen
